Bangladesh under-19 cricket team has won the world championship almost four years ago. But the competition of continental excellence, the Asia Cup trophy has not caught the hands of the youth of Bangladesh for so long. That imperfection also disappeared today. Bangladesh U-19 team became the Asia Cup champion for the first time after defeating the host United Arab Emirates in the final in Dubai today.
The youngsters of Bangladesh scored 282 runs for 8 wickets on the back of 129 runs by opener Ashikur Rahman who was in great form. Bangladesh won by 195 runs chasing Emirates for 87 runs in 24.5 overs.
Three pacers Maruf Mridha, Iqbal Hossain and Rohanat Daula destroyed the Emirates innings. Maruf started it. The left-arm pacer sent back Emirates opener Aryansh Sharma in the fifth over. In his next over, Maruf took the wicket of another opener, Akshat Rai.
Then Rohnat got down to work. This medium pacer picked up Tanish Suri, Ethan D'Souza and Emirates captain Ayan Afzal Khan in three consecutive overs. Ayan, who has played 25 ODIs and 21 T20Is, was caught by wicketkeeper Ashiq when the Emirates score was 45/5.
Emirates lost the sixth and seventh wickets in the 15th over. Iqbal Hossain picked up Yazin Rai and Ammar Badami in two consecutive balls. After the pacers took 7 consecutive wickets, a spinner came into the scene. Off-spinner Sheikh Parvez bowled Hardik Rai to make the Emirates score 71/8.
After Maruf Mridha came back to attack and picked up the ninth wicket, Sheikh Parvez picked up the last wicket and the youngsters of Bangladesh celebrated the victory in Asia.
Dhruv Parashar put up little resistance in the Emirates innings. The batsman scored 25 runs and was unbeaten.
